After an investigation by DOL’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration to the Illinois Central Railroad Co. and the Chicago, Central & Pacific Railroad, a former railroad employee got paid more than $80,000 in back wages, compensatory damages and attorney’s fees. The employee stated that the railroads terminated his employment in retaliation for reporting an injury he sustained on the job. In addition to monetary compensation, the railroad carriers were ordered to provide whistleblower rights information to their employees.
