Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act New Tax Credit for Hiring Unemployed Workers
As many of you know, Congress recently passed the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act, allowing employers to take a tax credit for hiring unemployed workers.
DOL Interpretation Letter
On March 24, 2010, Nancy J. Leppink, the Deputy Administrator for the Wage and Hour Division of the United States Department of Labor, issued an “Administrator’s Interpretation” stating that employees who perform the typical job duties of a mortgage loan officer generally do not meet the prerequisites for the administrative exemption under the FLSA.
New Posting Requirement for Federal Contractors
The Department of Labor recently issued its final rule requiring all federal contractors and subcontractors to post the attached “Employee Rights Under the National Labor Relations Act” poster, which notifies employees of their right to join and form labor unions and certain protected activities.
Does My Company Need a Whistleblowing Policy?
Whistleblowing is an act by an employee or employees of a company that exposes illegal, unethical, harmful, or wasteful wrongdoing by the company or co-workers. Generally this policy has evolved from recent laws such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, Energy Reorganization Act, and Whistleblower Protection Act.
OSHA Changes to general industry
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is proposing a number of regulatory revisions as part of a project aimed at improving its safety and health standards.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will begin issuing a redesigned Permanent Resident Card (Form I-551) on May 10, 2010. The new card will return to its original color – green – and include more security features.
